fack man

i'm useless at taking photos and uploading

will have another look either tonight or over the weekend

my point is the motor is less than 30 days old and i want to catch the dealer on it if i can

when i mentioned it they said it's normal

my question is, it might be normal, but what are the implications?

I think its normal.. i noticed that mine had a couple of rust patches on it too the other day. Took it for a drive, came back and they were gone. Like someone said before its just exposed metal so it will rust very quickly.. but only on the surface.

brake disc's rust FACT, even the breaking surface rusts after the cars been driving in the rain. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. cast iron always rusts, only very very lightly on the surface, brake discs are not make of stainless steel!!. Only area in the wheel department to look for is the hubs rusting which should not and a real problem on the Vw's and are covered under factory warranty.

The braking face of the disc will generally start to oxidise on any steel brake discs withing 8 hours of being exposed to water. It is simple chemistry. Once you are rolling again and you press the brakes it will go away as it is simply surface oxidation and not the deep seated rust you get on old Alfa's  :nerd:

Do you mean the face of the disk or the bell. Take a look at this thread.

http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/thread/827463.aspx

I took a paint brush to mine and gave them a coat of paint. (NOT the disk face of course )

My MKiv the disk bells were spotless not a hint of rust, a friend at works are just the same on her Bora and thats three years old. VW must have changed the paint finish.
