There is a quick process required to fix this common issue with all cars, big and small!
Step 1: Switch on engine
Step 2: Blare the fcukin radio
Problem solved

why the hell dont you take it back and get it lookd at, it under warenty isnt it!! just go in and kick up a fuss!!  :lipsrsealed:
I'd love my dealer to sort it but I keep reading awful reports of cars missing for days at a time only to be returned just as rattly, endless return trips for unresolved rattles, damaged cars, thrashed cars and workshop oiks prizing dashboards apart with screwdrivers.

My dealer damaged my car before I even picked it up from new and the pre delivery preparation was absolutely sh1ite.

The thought of one of the workshop 'bods' pulling my new car apart sends shivers down my spine.

Thanks Cass, appreciated.

As for rattles being inevitable, how so?

I've just sold a flimsy 6 year old Clio172 that never had any rattles and the last 5 brand new cars (not one of them a VW) I've owned had nothing like these build quality issues.

Well - wrote a e-mail of complaint stating i wanted the rattles permanantly fixed- quickly got a call from the dealer - booked in for two days - thats what they say they need to ensure the job - free courtesy car - sorted IMO. Thats the benefit of a car with a warranty. If it rattles again - same process will occur again - and they pick up / deliver too.
Sometimes mass produced cars need a small amount of farting about to get right. Bloody better be - i've made that quite clear!

Trading in my 6 year old Clio 172 (90k on the clock) for my new Gti tomorrow   . I only hope the build quality is a little better, although not holding my breath considering what a lot of you guys are saying.
Last 2 cars I've had have been French (yeah... ha ha), 106 GTi and the Clio 172.... both rattled like a bag of bolts... but both always started first time, every time and never had any serious problems.
Am going for a german car now cos I want something that hopefully is better built and I can actually listen to the b**ody radio without turning the volume to max. (something that's important when you're getting on a bit!!)    :embarassed:

Hi Matt, fine choice of cars, some real enthusiast stuff there. My 172 which I also just traded for a GTI had zero rattles.

The GTI is a far more mature car and a really lovely thing but boy it rattles.

 I wish you well.
