« on: 02 March 2004, 21:22 »
just a question on oil,  my oil buzzer starts to come on a couple months after i get an oil change and it is always off after i get the change which is weird,  i always check the levels  but recently when ive gone to check the levels the underside of the cap when i scrwew it off is covered in an off white colored sludge slime and globs of it can be seen inside what the heck is that?

Sounds like it could be your head gasket mate, the nasty white stuff is usually a result of oil mixing with the water from your cooling system :-\

naa maybe not even your head gasket.

You get that yellow or grey stuff under your oil cap and inside of the oil breather at this time of year (cold weather)

If your loosing alot of water then i would worry about it.

Maybe your engine is running cold by a stuck open thermo???

i found same stuff under oil cap and in crankcase breather (and obviously crapped my pants) but when i took it to have the tests done, the garage informed me my head gasket was fine.
i flushed out the block and re filled with some good oil

I was under the impression the warning light for oil only came on when the pressure was low, ie, when the oil level was low.

If there's sh!t in on your cap then somethign else is defiently wrong.

in the old fast ford mag about (1993 95 94 etc early 1990's) i have somewhere i read a atrical about a fiesta xr2 with the problem they just said its the breather and water vapour unless your loosing oil and water they said just change the oil and give the car a good high temp drive down the duel carrage way / motorway to burn and excess water in the engine.....

so i can agree with them even tho thats a ford and yours a vw the engines work on the same prinsiple.

a good trash will get the oil hot enough the evaporate any water in the oil and if your breather is working correctly it should get sucked by this and burned with the petrol.......
