remaps- old question!

Ive had my 07 GTI for nearly 8 months now and love it, but i keep picking up my copy of EVO and seeing remaps advertised, i had a 2002 BMW 320D which i had mapped from 150 - 183 bhp and the effect was v noticeable, especially when the turbo blew up at 37k, was replaced and did it again at 60k!.
morego advertise for £1000 which includes full milltek exhaust, and apparently they have fully tested on the GTI engine not a generic re-map, map on its own is £500

how long have people had the remaps and have you had any reliability probs, with the turbo ect, luckily with the BMW, they couldnt detect the map so got away with quite a lot of work for free, but the car let me down several times!

....I've had Revo Stage1 for approx 17,000 miles and have covered all sorts of roads including high speed German autobahns and Alpine twisties, all with no problems so far.

i have revo stage 2 on max settings and it has no problems at all only downside is you need to change your boxers just after you get it mapped, lol.

we are a revo dealer and have had no comebacks, veryone has gone away smiling.

where are you based?

im in Barnsley South Yorkshire, the car is a standard GTI not ED30

is it detectcable by VW the car is < 1 year old, any body tell the insurance

....You MUST tell your insurers!

Take a scenario where some kid runs out under your car and it's absolutely not your fault....They are seriously injured or killed....Your car is likely to be impounded and a very full investigation held. If you are found to have not informed your insurer they can void your whole insurance and you are left with potentially very serious problems.

Take any scenario you like, your whole insurance can be null and void if you have not informed your insurer.

Whether you tell VW is another matter but I have and would advise doing so. I just switch to stock map before any servicing and switch back after and I have full support from both my VW dealer and Revo.

....But that's not the point. The important thing (as I posted) is to tell your insurers.

I think anyone hiding a remap from anyone is a bit stupid anyway. If you don't switch to stock map for your dealer visits and they load a routine ECU update (frequently done) you risk needing your remap reinstalling and your car possibly not starting (24K6 did this in some cases). If you're an approved Revo tuner, you should already know this. Surely you aren't advocating hiding a remap from a dealer?

yes i totally agree, you must tell your insurance company as it will invalidate it , and i didnt say to hide it from the dealer the guy asked if it was traceable and i said no, dealers also revo cars so its not as bad as you make out.

....Sorry - I (mis)interpreted your words as implying you could/should hide a remap from the dealer. Yes, I understand that there are quite a few VAG dealers who offer Revo .
