try selecting it manually before buying anything....if your looking at the car from the front, with the g/box to the right hand side you want to pull the selector towards yourself and then push it to the far right and that will select reverse.
my g/box is nuked and even after a full bush kit and alignment i still dont get it properly - pops out after about 2s and seems to want a minimum speed of 20mph in reverse!
