Guys you have got to help me!
My fiance says that my golf gti is not a classic car, just an old banger and that when i have finished restoring it i have to sell it cos i already have a good car.
Please will you help me by posting reasons why i should keep it and also tell her that it is a classic car.
Address your posts to Ruth (evil Golf hater!)
SAVE MY GOLF!!!!!!!!!!!

I will print off all your posts and give them to her as a petition!
since me cohorts have all come to the conclusion that because your fiance has the audacity to question your motive towards your GTI, shes the one that has to go. Likewise, if the Golf expressed an opinion about your girl, you'd tell it to mind its own business. Pity you cant say that to the girl.
Anyway, the Golf GTI (Mk2) is not a classic car.
Yet.
But it will be.
Heres my reasoning.
1. There are many many Golf GTI Mk2s out their. And every day some wally wallops it into something terminal. Like a wall, another car, lamp post, etc. The laws of attrition will turn to your favour and in 10 years, when you look around for a good condition Golf GTI - there wont be any around.
Question - when did you last see a Cortina? or a Granada Mk1 or 2?
Answer - not recently, they were everywhere once, but now they are all dead. The Golf will go the same way.
2. I am not into the Modding camp. I dislike Mods to Golf Mk2s. Sorry guys, there you have it. I like tasteful mods, but generally, i hate mods. So many Mk2s are being modded, that in ten years time - there wont be any decent "standard" Golf Mk2s. The ones that will be around will be in very poor shape, or Modded to hell. Getting spares will be close on to a nightmare.
Modded cars also tend to fall into the wrong hands. They cost alot to put together, and even more to keep running. Eventually, the owner finds a female, they settle down, and buy baby clothes. At somepoint the modded car has to go to pay for a school uniform.
The car is then sold to someone who doesn't care, or even has the same inclination as the original owner, and the car starts falling apart.
Within 3 years it looks a dogs dinner. And then the car gets scrapped.
All of these work to your favour with an Original Mk2 Golf GTI. They will become rare, and although if you invested the money in a savings account, it will out perform your investment in the Golf for the next 100 years, you will be the proud owner of something very rare and precious.

Tin
