my sunday afternoon efforts
« on: 16 September 2007, 15:10 »
OK, so I'm the laziest polisher and a complete novice at this, my routine was;

  • Wet down the paint with the hose to remove the dust
  • A bucket of car shampoo and a soft brush on a stick
  • Rinse with the hose
  • Dry off with a microfibre cloth
  • Apply Dodo Juice with my hands to 1 shaded side of the car at a time
  • Buff off with a microfibre cloth
  • Move on to the next side
  • Admire the results and bandage the cuts on my fingers....boy those plastics are sharp LOL

Comments and suggestions welcomed :)

I didn't do my plastics or rubbers.....what is the best way to do them ?

Looks good dude!

I think most people on here would recommend the kiwi shoe polish route for black plastics - not tried it myself but I've heard good things.

For the tyres - I use Meguiars tyre dressing - works a treat and get a deep black / wet look that lasts. Just needs to be sprayed on.

kewl thanks for the suggestions :)

I must say I'm very impressed with the Dodo Juice, very easy to apply and buff off by hand...wasn't cheap tho, but seems worth it at £2-ish per application.

I hope that my Mars red comes up as good as that.

I also have a set of the same wheels to go on after a refurb.

Best thing for your plastics and rubber is Black Boot Polish. Reasons for this are ...

1 - Most Back to Black / Tyre Shine products are silicon based, They leave a residue (the shine) which attracts dust.

2 - Boot polish had dye in it, so it will cover up any 'fade' in your plastics.

3 - Boot polish is wax based, so even if you do get some dust settling on it the next time you drive in the rain or hose the car down the dust will run off with the water.
