Need help Valuing my MkIII
« on: 29 February 2004, 12:56 »
Hi Guys,

Im trying to sell my MkIII but I have no idea what kind of price I should be looking and should expect to get. I know as a general rule people don't like buying ready modified cars and it could be a bit of a bugger to shift. Well here's what it is, if you could give me some pointers would greatly appriciate it.

o MkIII Golf Gti 1992 J Reg 5 Door - 120k Miles
o TSR Silverstone Engine Conversion
o AmD Chip
o Piper Cams
o Stainless Steel Mainfold and Full Stainless System
o Front Race Brace.

Pushes out around 170bhp and more torque than you can shake a stick it! Estimate that the  0 - 60 time would be late 6's early 7's and it does keep going with excellent torque throughout the gear ranges.

o Wolfrace racelight 15" Alloys
o Koni Uprated Shocks all round
o Front Cross Drilled Vented Discs
o Hagus Classic M3 Mirrors
o Subtle Rear Spoiler
o Sports Steering Wheel
o Pentagon Window Tinting

ICE

o Pioneer OEL - 8100 DEH Headunit
o Pioneer Mids and Tw's In Front
o Pioeer Mids in rear
o Stealth Shelf
o Sound Proofed Boot
o JBL Combined 10" Sub Box and Amp Package
o Futher Pioneer Amp for Rear Speakers
o Pioneer 12 Disc CD Changer

Complete with a FSH and a mound of recipts for all the work done. Car is very good condition paint is pretty good for its age a few little marks on the bonnet but nothing serious, no scratches or anything and its just had a new tailgate fitted due to the old one had a small rust patch. The car hasn't had that much use over the past 18 months, but hasn't been standing still for long periods of time.

So if you would folks........................

i saw what you put in that other post (5k)  i was  :o

considering age, mileage.. etc etc  without the mods.. that cars worth half that.

because of the mods etc..

stick it in at 2995 maybe less... i'm being generous because of the mods.. probably have a hard time shifting it at that...

ps. dont quote a 0-60 time if u aint sure, that sounds ludicrious.. u really think its faster than a vr6? pleassse

Id say in the range of 2000-2500.

The mileage for the age is about right as an average of 10k p/year if not a bit less than average!

The engine mods are a downfall for obvious reasons although the cosmetic mods are tasteful and subtle (this can turn people off if they think you're a boy racer tho  ::) )

I wouldnt expect to get much more as the 2nd hand car market is a bit sh!t at the moment!

Have you ever thought about putting your car back to standard and selling all the bits seperately?? Im sure you'll make more money that way!!

I think it could give a Vr6 a pretty good run for its money, its definately quick, just figures im not sure.

Splitting it all down unfortunately isn't an option, I don't have a lot of the orginal bits and time aswell it needs to be gone. Im not out to stitch anyone on a price, hence why I posted it here, but its a bit of gut ripper to see that it might have to go for such a low value  :'(

Ladycruiser - Secondhand markets are sh!t all over at the moment, but as they say, things are only worth what people are willing to pay for them, could try the max power lot, its got a nice quick engine all thats missing is their Blue Peter sticky back plastic mods - ooooo could be right up their street ;)

sorry to be harsh, but "think" means nothing.. proof or nothing.

just like the "8vs" think they can beat valvers.. i nearly started thinkin they were tellin the truth until i totally raped someone in one the other week. I've followed a few vr6s can mostly keep up pretty well, but I can tell they're just that lil bit quicker.

(just a sidenote: there are a few sleeper vr6s around here, they have no grille badge, no rear badge, u can only tell if you get close enough to clock the vr6 logo on the side trim)

haha, I guessed what you meant!  ;D

I kinda knew it would be a struggle, didn't think things would be this bad - give it a bit of time and checking up, finally getting some emails through though, which is promising!

Hi Yid - looks a lovely car and obvioulsy money has been spent.  However, you seem to also appreciate that modifying / tuning cars does not neccasarily reap financial rewards and this will need to be reflected in the price mate.

I bought my MkIII 1993 L reg 5 door 8v Gti, electric pack, tax and MOT 116,000 miles, FSH, good condition for ?2,000 a few weeks back.  No mods, nice stereo and a spare set of genuine VW alloys.  Saying that, I live just a few miles outside Glasgow and in my experience cars are slightly cheaper in the North ;).

Not sure if this info helps or not :-\ .....but good luck anyway :)
