total rebuild?
« on: 15 September 2007, 16:46 »
hey guys im new to the site, i recently purchased an 1987 mk2 golf gti digifant for 875 quid
the body work is more or less sound for a 20 year old car, just the engine is a bit tired i dnt think it has ever been serviced lol and probley been cained from cold.
i kno for sure that theres a cracked or damaged ring on one of the pistons it smokes like a pig,and sound like a tractor.
so basically im gonna get my self a donour engine get the head done(dnt know where yet? suggestions welcome) ported pollished skimmed all that *******s was also thinking bigger exhaust valves, but im not sure about inlets?
also another thing is weather to stick with the 1800 bottom end or get hold of a 2e or agg block, but seeing as times an issue with getting the car back on the road,i mite not want to bother with having source one and worrie about dizzy's and blanking plates, all in aid of some addded torqe!!!!

so what kinda power ouput am i looking with a standard bottom end, with a big valve head and a decent cam? and some other bits and bobs?

cheers guys, sorry about the rant! views welcome......

As far as the head is concerned, ive heard / read good things about the 'man in the shed' heads on clubgti. have a look on there, i think the contact details are on there. Quite expensive when you start looking at bigger valves and the like though.
