Compress rear brake caliper 95 golf?

Trying to fit new rear pads (pagid) on 1995 gti (ABS) got them all apart lovely jubbly, but could I compress the piston It said on the instructions with the brake pads (I've got no manual) that for rear pads the piston should be turned or take up adjustment on some screw
I could do nither, I couldn't see any adjusting screw and could not turn piston? Please can anybody enlighten me or direct me to a site with detailed instructions?

You will have to wind back the caliper piston. You should be able to turn the piston if it is not siezed. I have a tool for this, but it may be possible to use a allen key or a pair of grips, the piston needs to be pushed into the caliper as it is turned and be carefull not to damage the piston seal. It is a bit fiddely, but can be done.

Its easier if you use the proper piston wind back tool that you can buy in halfords. Makes the job so much easier.

the later golfs have 2 daft cut out bits on the piston where as older golfs have allen key much simpler...

my mate has a late mk 2 and his has the cut out bits what i nighmare we couldnt get it back in and a back street garage he did it with water  pump pliers..
the size ajustable ones! and my mates pads have gone on the rears the other day and i cant find theses pliers so unless he gets some he have to get the garage do it again and to top it all off his 2nd back box has gone so he's thinking of full stainless but he said he didnt want to keep the car that long.
as yet i dont knw what he's doing about it

Halfords sell the tool that will wind the pistons back in, so theres no need to go to a garage to get it done.

try cracking off the bleed nipples before trying to push the pistons back this makes it a bit easier
