Gti/R32 seats
« on: 13 September 2007, 19:34 »
Only had the car now for a week, however I have to say i am slightly dissapointed with the seats, which I believe are the same as the Gti. Althought they are very comfortable I cant help but think they just dont provide enough support round corners at speed. I often find myself holding onto the center armrest.

When i first looked at the optional recaros I just thought they looked a little hideous... Im starting to realise why they offered them now!

Any GTi owner feel the same or is it just me going round round abouts at 50mph?

Support on ED30 seats is okay, but would have liked a full Recaro option. I presume you have the optional leather standard seats? :undecided: If so then I agree and found them less supportive than both the ED30 seats and the recaro's.

Just the cloth option im affraid, which I thought would stop my little butt sliding around, but it seems not. I did test the ed30 seats and really liked them. Especially the red stiching (which I doesnt add to the support) but are they the same as the std GTi seats

I wonder how much the Recaros cost - I am thinking of putting them in my Ed30.... while keeping the originals of course.

The standard R32 seats are identical to the GTI and Ed30 seats.  Personally, I don't find them too bad, if anything, slightly more supportive around corners than the silk nappa leather clad Recaros in my old S4.

The Recaro buckets in my current RS4, with their inflatable side bolsters are sommat else though.  Even my "petit" Mrs Tamer doesn't get thrown around in them!

Fleabay?

If you do get a set, you will need to recode the Airbag ECU, as the Recaros don't have the side airbags.

I have the recaro's on my GTI and they're great, aparently they were a 3K option.  At first I thought the side bolsters would get in the way, but they don't.

Must admit I personally find the standard cloth GTI seats fine and quite supportive. Specced cloth as the leather is traditionally too hot in summer and too cold in winter

Must be due to my big lardy being wedged in them. Oh well.......back to the gym again this week

I have no problems with Ed30 seats.
BMW M5 seats with inflatable side bolsters were on a whole different level, though. I know exactly what TT means (though he has Audi).

i have to say if your having to hold onto the armrest , you must be seriuosly cane'ing your GTi round the twisties, petty your fast wearing tyres!. i think they are the best driving seats ive ever sat in for a road car, except a full rally race seat when ive done rallying in the past time.
