Electrical loom work is the problem here it will take some time, but I'm sure if you have gone that far in getting a 16V lump you have thought about what you're doing or not

afaik, they have completely different fuel systems, so you would have all the fuel lines, and pumps to change as well as the loom.
Just buy a valver if you want one!

Only if the 8v is a digifant will you have to do that, if it is a k-jet then that'll all be fine.

Pisses me right off when people say that.

I am currently converting my 8v mk2 into a 2.0 16v. Yes i could have sold my 8v to go and get a factory 16v, but didn't for the following reasons:

  • There is no rust on my 8v
  • It is an early mk2 in Mars Red (which i love), i don't think they even did 16v's in Mars Red???
  • Insurance on a standard 16v (138bhp) would be around £750 (possibly a bit more, i can't remember), insurance on my 8v with the 2.0 16v (166bhp) declared will be £610
  • I would probably have to spend another grand plus the money i would get from my 8v to get a 16v in the same condition
  • One of the main reasons: I enjoy working on my car (most of the time) and i enjoy a challenge. Also in doing a job like this I get to know a bit more about my car and how certain things work, which is a bonus come the time they break!
  • Oh and another reason, my 16v engine was in effect free!
