Retro fit Ipod connection at Dealer
« on: 09 September 2007, 21:51 »
Hi
Just wanted to know if anyone had the £150 dealer fit Ipod connection fitted - is it any good, whats it features?

Kicking myself as had a "moment" and didnt order my armrest with it built in, but I understand the dealers fit one and the cable go's through to the glove box. Have been using one of these FM broadcast things and while ok, its falling all over the place if im booting it! Just seems a tidy solution.

cheers in advance!

Just saw one today, looks bloody brilliant compared to offerings from other manufacturers. Just plug it in, comes with adaptors for different ipods. Was told track info is displayed in the display. Sounds good!

Are you sure that this is a VW fitment, or is it an aftermarket one?. I'd be careful about the standard VW head unit displaying the track information. The only one's I've seen from VW simply show the track number and show the playlist as a CD :undecided:

I ordered the VW IPOD prep in the armrest and it was pants

It only shows the track number you are playing and can only handle 5 playlists. You cannot see ANY information on track details, albums, artists etc let alone select them. Oh and when the track number gets to 99 it goes back to 1 even though you are playing track 100!

Anything with a standard VW headunit WILL NOT show any info bar the track number 0-99.

You have been warned

I can confirm the VW ipod cable does not allow you to see track names.

Bleh, typical lying stealer! He also told me Ed30's didn't come in five door.. grrr..

OK, so what solutions is there to this? Is it possible to run a cable from the VW IPOD adaptor so you can control it via the Ipod UI or is that not possible?

I gather there is a Denison setup then for the VW head units?

I had a Dension ICE set-up in my last car and it was a decent enough set-up. There are two main Dension set-ups, one that plays through the radio frequency (you would have to have this one if you have a VW CD multiplayer) and one that uses the spare input if you do not have a CD multiplayer. It is good so far as to say you still use the IPOD screen and controls to choose your music, but it is a little fiddly and means that you have the IPOD on display.
