Mark 1 as daily driver?
« on: 04 September 2007, 23:43 »
as above how many of you run a mark 1 all year round? is it practical? i really fancy getting one instead of the mark 2 but dont want to be constantly battling even more to keep her sweet? would it be too costly and a waste of an old car?
i must buy a new car!

I ran a mk1 cab as a daily for about four years but they are newer than a tintop so probably had less trouble with it. It is possible, but I still had to keep on top of it and I personally think that they will be harder to keep up to than a mk2, especially as a daily. Do'able, but tricky at the same time in my opinion.
......now officially dubless.

 My mk1's my only car and its retired from daily driving now as I've got a scooter for traveling to work but, I drove my mk1 for many years to and from work etc.. with very few problems.  there is of course the added bonus that most people assume an old car will be reliable - if you're prepared to tarnish your cars reputation a bit you can have a lie in and blame it on the car  :smug:

My brother's daily driver is a '66 beetle and even he has very few breakdowns, as long as you keep on top of the servicing it should be fine.

Used to use the cabbie as a daily, like Gibby..didn't particularly like it in the winter but she never let me down (touches wood) in fact, shes never broke down...
