Weber conversion...
« on: 03 September 2007, 23:34 »
Ok, having a few problems with my Pierburg carb on my 1.6 Driver. Theres huge flat spots under acceleration. It misfires now and then, and even carries on running after i turn the key. Overfueling?

What would i need for a weber conversion? How much work is needed? I'm asking because i don't think its a job any monkey can do with a few spanners.

Any help would be great! Thanks

The Pierberg is a brilliant carb really, but after all these years it's showing some signs of wear. The problem is, it's got stacks of parts that make it function brilliantly too, so thats were the Weber takes over, its simplicity.

Get a 32/34 DTML twin choke Weber, and make sure its for a Golf, and not another car because I've seen a few people having to sell them back on Ebay because they don't have vacumm hose fittings in a certain place to make them work right or something else.

Fitting them is straight foward from what I hear, but you'd need to get a garage to sort out the CO level anyway for its next MOT so £25 would be what I'd expect them to charge to tune it right.

Ebay is a good place to get them for £50 +
