TT - 2 of mine have kerbing that is less than 1" long and not near the corrosion, VAG UK first replied that the dealer had said the wheels were kerbed, so no claim, but after much discussion  they have agreed to inspect the wheels, as they now accept that if the corrosion is not near the kerbing then it cannot be caused by it, especially the corrosion around the bolt holes!!

I'll keep it posted

No kerbing when they agreed to replace them.  They said that if they'd been kerbed then they wouldn't have replaced them.  Also, once they'd agreed to replace them, they asked me please please please not to kerb them.

Predictably, around about 12 hours after I had relayed this message to the missus she kerbed NSF alloy, much to my annoyance.

2 days later I kerbed the OSF alloy.  :embarassed:

I eventually took the car in I didn't mention the 2 little "incidents" and they still replaced all 4 wheels, no questions asked.

Speaking to a sales guy I get on with in the dealership, he says that the bods in the garage put warranty issues into the computer and get issued with a "yes" or "no" answer, based on VW's policy for that particular issue.  He was the guy who said if there was any kerbing at all, they would not replace the wheels, as computer says "no".

BTW my car was 16 mths old at the time and had done 20k miles.  (Now 18 mths with 22k - been cooling on the mileage of late.)

Well after 6 long months the wheel issue is sorted, 1 being replaced by VW as goodwill, and 3 by the supplying dealer.  The saga took a strange twist when VW rejected 3 wheels, as they had been 'refurbished'. I pointed out that when I purchased the car at 12 months, they all looked perfect and I had not had them refurbed, after 18 months the corrosion was advanced, too cut a very long story short, the supplying dealer confirmed that 3 wheels had corrosion at time of part ex and they had a local company refurb them, so VW promptly rejected my claim as the wheels were repaired by a non-approved agent.
At this point I was feeling pretty low, until I re read the Approved Used Car booklet, and it clearly states all repair/rectification work will be carried out by VW techs using genuine VW parts,  on stating this to the selling dealer and suggesting to him that I would be claiming full refund of car purchase price due to mis-representation of goods at time of sale in court, as i could not take benefit of the VW 3 year warranty,  a very quick offer to replace the 3 wheels was made!!

Also got great support from VW Cust Service ( I know not everyone gets great service from them), but even they knew the dealer did not have a leg to stand on, and definately leaned on him.
So 4 new wheels, all fitted with Pilot Sport 2's (tyres at my cost) and new centre caps thrown in,
restores your faith in humanity (and VW Cust Service)

Good result and well done for sticking with it!

Two of my 18" Monzas went after less than a year (one front and one rear) with very obvious "white worm syndrome".  I waited until the first service and had them replaced with no argument and no wait as the dealer had two already in stock.

My last car was a Lexus IS200 and the wheels on that were even worse.  Three complete sets during the warranty period was not unusual, although I just waited until I was about to sell the car and had them replaced once.
