What do you keep in your boot for emergencies?
« on: 01 September 2007, 01:30 »
Hi,

I have just inherited a safety triangle and emergency medical kit from my dads old A2, it strapss nicely on the left hand side.

On the right I have a litre of longlife oil, a few pairs of disposable rubber gloves, and some rags and wipes in case of a trye change.

I will be getting a torch soon, and i think that will be all I need.

Anyone else have an emergency kit with stuff I have missed out?

EDITED - added a few things

spare set of bulbs
Quik Detailer and MF cloth for when pesky birds do their business over the car
Tool kit with torx screws and a few sockets
Jack and associated tools
Wheel assist removal tool - goes into the hole for the bolts and helps the wheel come off without damaging the rim and the brakes :afro:
Torch
Fuses
Jump leads
Umbrella
Map - use this rather than sat nav!! Cheaper to replace
Blanket
Bottle ot water to top up screenwash

And when travelling in the winter always take a flask of tea - came in very handy when i got stuck in traffic for 3 hours cos of the snow!!

I have a bottle of LongLife slippery stuff, an 'ikkle bottle of screenwash, both in the side pocket.

A warning triangle clipped in the space on the left.  A little blanket in the parcel shelf netting.  A Hi-Vis waistcoat in the drivers seat map pocket (told to keep it there by a HATO - if you stop on the side of the road, you can slip it on before getting out of the car).

In the spare wheel well, I have a couple of emergency raincapes, some latex gloves, a couple of black bin liners (handy to sit on).

In the boot, in an old ice cream tub - spare spark plugs, spare bulbs, spare fuses, some garnet paper (don't ask!), some spare tyre valve caps, and a tyre valve core.  I also have a pair of overalls (thought for the day - WTF are they called a "pair" ???).

If I'm off on one of my long touring hols (usually a month at a time), then I also take 5lts of oil, 5lts of screenwash, some brake fluid, WD40, a tyre compressor (well, that IS my spare in my RS4, along with a bottle of gloop!), a first aid kit, and a second warning triangle (in Spain, two triangles are now compulsory!).

I think that's all, folks!

Is there a pattern developing here?  Only the Mk4 owners seem to feel the need to keep socket sets, tow ropes and jump leads!
