« on: 31 August 2007, 18:34 »
I am picking up my new ed30 this week, just wondering.... is it worth signing up for there Maintenance package?

Has anyone got it, and would you recomend it?

Also where can I find more info on it?

Cheers!

What is the detail of their quote?  What does it include, and more importantly, what does it exclude?

Also, what happens if you decide to modify your car, or what if you have a preference for a particular tyre make?

Finally, what service regime are you on?

EDIT:  this was discussed before, a couple of older threads:

a speedy reply!

I haven't got a quote from them yet, thought it would be best to see if anyone has one of the packages on here first.

I believe you can get tyres on it aswell?

Im not sure which service type to go for, I cover lots of miles so im thinking Longlife

You caught me lucky!

Ahh, well it really is vital to get a written quotation, up front, and then take it home and think it over away from the pressure of the salesman.

I don't have a maintenance package, because I don't think they are worth it.  Think of extended warranties that Currys try to sell!

Yes, you can get tyres included.  However, if your car turns up with say Dunlops, or even worse Pirelli, and you are a Michelin man, then you will end up with the crap that is already on there - if you are lucky.  There has been other reports on this very forum of VW stealers fitting budget tyres, mixing axle pairs, and generally not being very "professional" in selecting tyres.

Again, there are plenty of threads here, discussing why you should NOT use LongLife servicing.  Look in the rear of the sales brochure, and it is quite detailed in terms of engine revs!

We do our best to sort the wheat from the chaff!

Do you search for any of the previous threads on LongLife servicing?

As I am new and getting through all the threads in time i will post here,
when i bought my 2003 MK4 GTi i took on the 3 years servicing from VW @ £26.50 a month included tyres free servicing etc..
during the 3 years the car which was on long life servcing was only serviced twice, 1 @ 12k and the other @28k the later service was after a fight with VW as they deemed the car not ready for it, this was after 3 years of ownership and i was selling it so a recent serv in the book would look good.Anyway they agreed to MOT it for free and change the tyres but i had a winter set of alloys so i was still on the orig's and they were well within limit so they didn't req it, so over the 3yrs i had 1 service, set off wipers, some oil, and that was it bar the free breakdown cover which i also didn't use in the 1st year.when i was orig sold the fixed price serv they didn't tell me there was dif levels and i had been conned into the top level at that time  :embarassed:, so i set about getting some of my cash back after a few calls VW sent me a cheque back for £585.so think about how many miles you do a year if its high you maybe excluded or if its low like me its not worth it.
just my 2p worth

I've taken out the full package, but I am on a fixed time/distance servicing at 10k a year. So I will get 3 services, front boots (which my dealers have guaranteed will be conti's as fitted now or their new equivalent), air con service, first MOT and any sundry parts in between (brake pads, wipers etc). 3 years breakdown cover- which I'm hoping NOT to use, but it is comforting to know it is there. I asked if I could have the "good stuff" long life oil during services and they have agreed to that too. I am a VERY good customer of theirs, having bought seven cars from them in the past six years and so they look after me. It does help too that I know some of them outside of their workplace too
