Going to test drive VR6 I really shouldn't

I love my GTi bit with only 8valves its not the quickest.............
Considring selling it on and getting a VR6, but havent got any extra cash to add to it.

So going to part with almost mint 1998 GTi 8v 5door with only 70k and prob end up woth something a year or 2 older with 2 less doors  with an extra 20-30k!!!!  Am i mad.  The VR6 just sounds soo tempting and could do with the extra power.

let you all know what i decide

hmmmm Ive been tempted so many times to buy a VR6... even been to test drive a few and have ended up with mk3 gti 16v everytime, im on my 3rd 16v now after first of all owning a 8v like yourself.

VR6's are soooo nice i still want one, wouldnt worry to much about the extra miles as long as its been serviced blah blah

If your car isnt giving you any problems id keep it as its one of the last ones and 8v sell sooooo much better than something that is older with more miles!!!

I wish i'd bought my mates VR6 a couple of years ago it would be considered a bargin today.

It was a 96 P-plate 3dr had been totally re-sprayed (in its original colour purple), re-furbished BBS alloys new koni suspension all round, magnex exhaust cat back with 120k on clock. He kept it immaculate if it needed doing no expense spared.

Eventually sold it to one of my other mates for £2100 then he kept until his girlfriend was up the duff and part ex'd it for a measly £1000 what a waste.

I do like the mk3 VR's shame i cant get insured on one  although i my try. I do like the fact that they dont have the arch trims so lowered and some nice wheels and you're away.

Also the burgandy colour is lovely. Like that one at brands with the silver+gold BBS's

They do have arch trims.  I think the highline ones don't, but mine does.
Sold the VR6... Now officially An Old Man With A Passat Estate.  At least it's a 1.8T

The arch trims on both gti and vr6 was an option from 96 onwards I believe....and I was an hour from buying a vr6 even sorted my insurance over the net and when i called to change my existing poilcy (which had 5 weeks left to run but with same co!!)... on the phone they said No!! unless i fitted a cat1 alarm which buying the vr was strecthing my budget!! so here i am with new ins co and a gti

I looked at VR6 before getting the GTi that I now own and at the time checked my Insurance on the 8v, 16v & VR6. At the time my premium was £238 (I had a Ka) but for:

8v   extra £95 plus must have a Cat 2 Immobiliser
16v extra £165 plus same as above
VR6 extra £255 but no extra security required

with £300 excess in all cases

That was with RBS unfortunately all the VR6's I looked at were dogs and 16v's were up 1min gone the next so the 8v was the only option.
