Vw desease?
« on: 30 August 2007, 22:34 »
This has been concerning me for quite some time now. What exactly draws us all in to Vws? i mean its almost a geeky following right? i might get slated for saying that but its true. I am a vicim of it myself, and obviously i have nothing better to do this evening other than write this drivel? i was visiting a girl i know today who is mad on vws and her dad had a VR6. He completely went on and on about vws when he saw my 8 valve and it was good to chat about them? But it sort of becomes more than just a car its like an obsession. Please anyone like to share some thoughts on this one. Also how would one overcome it? Does one just go out and Buy a Ford and thats the end of it?  :embarassed:
i must buy a new car!

love/ hate thing going on at the moment with vw's. Highly unreliable but the whole scene and the things you can do with vw's is good

i got into vw's at 14 when my dad bought a £20 camper for a cheap car to get him to work. had a string of beetles and a couple of golfs. the thing that strikes me about the vw scene (the golf scene in particular) is that you rarely see a chav tractor vw. most modified vw's end up looking classy. there are millions of saxo's round here with stupid stick on plastic bits and huge exhausts and you dont seem to get that with the vw scene.  thereis a young kid round here with a lupo. started off standard, he slammed it, slapped on some bbs wheels and is now midway through a smoothing job. it is going to look really subte when its done.

my mate is into his fords(he had a 2 door mk3 cortina about to have extensive surgery to look like a 70's eurocar with a huge yank v8. its going to be one mental, albeit ugly car!)  dont get  me wrong, i do have a soft spot for fords but the scene seems full of either old men with far too much money of the original essex boys who have now grown up but are still driving rs turbo kitted escort vans!

think i have gone off tangent a bit here but my point is the vw scene is friendly, the cars are cool and understated. there's just a bit of class in a golf gti rather than an xr or rs or whatever
