Whirlwind introduction to VW ownership!
« on: 30 August 2007, 15:29 »
Hello all

Here is my story.  I'd been planning for ages a road trip and trackday (my first!) with some friends from uni.  Everything was looking good until a combination of my incompetence and impatience and my Peugeot 205's fragility and general Frenchness ruined my plans at the eleventh hour!  I needed a trackworthy car that wasn't going to break down on me, had MOT and tax, and I needed it right then, that afternoon, and on a very low budget.  Asking a lot, but I was lucky enough to find a slightly weary mk2 Golf GTi 8v near me for just inside my budget.  That was last week, and I've since done over 1000 miles in it, including a 200 mile stretch on the motorway, over 100 hard miles at the new Anglesey circuit, and enjoying loads of Welsh twisties on the way there and back.  The car has a few niggles, but to the great disappointment of my friends proved faultlessly reliable, surprisingly rapid and fantastically fun

Looking forward to finding out a bit more about it on this forum and fixing a few of its minor faults.
