i need a bit of advice. i have a mk2 golf driver 1.6 auto 1991 and i have a 8v gti 1989. the shocks on the driver are 2 months old and i was wondering if the complete legs will fit my gti. if they do how will it affect the drive quality. i know the inserts are the same as the gti but not sure on the springs.

The springs will be different on the gti, i would have thought the dampers would be different as well.

the physical size of the dampers is the same but I would say the rebound damping qualities will be different.

i have been on europarts web site and the dampers have the same part number for front and back but the springs have different part numbers. i know they are newer dampers than my gti but the drive is much better and stiffer in the golf driver. thats why i was wondering if they will fit. it's too cold to spend all day taking all the leggs apart for the dampers so i'm being lazy.

They will fit, give it a go.
Should really put the gti springs on though.
If you are doing it yourself you haven't really got anything to lose, just your own time.

The shocks are exactly the same but i'm not sure if the springs on the GTi were more heavy duty due to any extra weight, however the physical size and shape will be the same. I did the same thing on my old 1.6 driver from my project GTi.
But that was the other way around so i would agree use the origional GTi springs.
