Insurance?
« on: 28 August 2007, 12:21 »
I  imagine you've probably seen this a million times so I am sorry! Picking up a MK1 GTi 1800cc on Friday, which I'm doing a bit of work on (it will remain standard) and it should be ready for about November when I'll be 21. Is anyone aware of any decent classic car insurers who will insure a 21 year old? Just got a quote with Herts which is this websites recommended insurance company... £3300!!!

I don't think HIC like you if you're under 21  :undecided: might be worth waiting as all companies will be much cheaper once you reach that magical age

OK, so once I'm 21 are they going to be the best? Do you think I've got any chance of getting it under a grand?

im 20 and HIC insured me for just under 1500 on my mk2 gti with leather and rims... surely 3000 quid is a bit steep even for a mk1 gti...

Mate, pm me your surname, postcode & phone number and i will take a look for you. (See the Stickys in the insurance section, its recommended that you run through a quote on our website but then always contact the office cos we have loads of schemes available, not all of which appear online so there may be better rates available   )

Waiting til you are 21 will definatly make a big difference too, as will limited mileage.

sorry to hijack, but with the limited milage thingy...i i forgot what milage i was on when i took out the policy and was unsure if i were going to go over that milage, could i ring up and change the amount? obviously i can understand a charge for doing so, but any idea roughly how much? pretty sure i havent gone over as of yet, but new job and all this commuting might have its toll... plus all the trips to the scrappers!

cheers, rob

Cheers mate I've sent you an e-mail. I've just importantly remembered, the quote doesn't even include my 6 points... eeek.

If you pm me your policy number i can check what your mileage was on?

Yeah there is usually a charge to change the mileage cos you have to change the discount to what it should have been at the start of the policy and pay the difference, you will need to ring though cos it depends on how much your policy was and which underwriter its with etc.
