Scabby centre caps
« on: 27 August 2007, 17:46 »
Hi,

My 18 inch monzas are holdng up quite well, but are being let down by the increasingle scabby centre caps. The chrome bits are turning white, as if water has got underneath them.

Has anyone else had this, or better yet, had them replaced under warrenty?

Paul.

Paul, I too had the scabby looking centre caps , took car in to stealers and had them replaced under warranty, shouldn't be a problem!

Excellent!!!

I try to keep it looking nice, and the caps were beginning to let it down.

I have a service coming up, so i will try to get them done then on the warrenty. I bet they are something like £10 each from VW.

Paul, you're not far wrong re the price, however major the fact as my service manager insisted that this was a common fault? Warranty should cover this no probs

Had then replaced on my Mkiv quite a few times under warrenty. However, one garage used a screwdriver to pop out the centre cap and made a mess of the alloy.

They are £5 a pop... I had three replaced when they replaced my alloys under warranty... the fourth is on the alloy that is quite kerbed which I think i will be getting replaced pretty soon to make the car look mint again.
Mk 5 GTi, Tornado Red, Leather, Xenons, 18" Monza II's, Sunroof, 6CD in Armrest, Winter pack & Tinted Windows... soon to be adding ED30 front spoiler, plus R32 sideskirts... then getting fully colour coded!
New engine fitted when car was at 27k... last one went "noisey".

Ouch.

Its reading things like this that makes me not want to get my car serviced.

Just wrap it up in bubblewrap, not drive it and just unpack it when the weathers nice to look at it.

Yep. I'm getting all four replaced this week as well as two Monza II's when I get four new tyres.

The car is two years old..

Yes, it's the white worms....

Had to send back four different replacements before I got good ones.

Two had white worms started and they hadn't even been fitted to a car and the others were badly scuffed because they transport them in a cardboard box with no protection.
