Cheers for the kind words!

Hunting down a wing and door today, anyone know any good breakers btw?

Going to replace the hub as well as i am worried about the threads but everything else seems ok.

I am putting it down to using too short wheel bolts which then allowed it to strip the thread out of the hub  :embarassed: That was a fairly foolish mistake. :embarassed:

Cheers Organisys i did try them Stevens people and they were the best out of the ones i rang.  In the end i got a door locally for £30 and a wing from a friend of a friend. So cheap fix so far.  Should be nice with a black door and a green wing!

The buttertubs are in North Yorkshire near a village called Muker. To give you an idea here is a video i found of some other guy driving over it, 3 mins 50 seconds is where the wheel came off!!

Porka sounds sweet!  And didn't go over the side as my brake disc did a damn good job of digging in and stopping me! Even managed to use the momentum to park it almost neatly in the layby on the left!

fyi for future reference, BMW wheel bolts are the correct thread and are slightly longer than oem bolts.  Plus they have a tapered seat so are perfect for fitting aftermerket alloys!  Oh and make sure you get 4 complete finger turns on the wheel bolts, any less is not enough!

just quick question do the wheels fit tight on hub ie does it have spigot rings?? i had set wheels once with no spigots on. this was cause of me losing my wheel? because the wheel cant centralise!! glad your ok mate

If the Bore of the wheel is not the same size as the Hub on the car you need Spigot Rings to reduce the diameter.  This is because if the Bore is Bigger and you have no Spigot Rings the Studs will be taking the weight of the  wheel instead of the Hub, Stud snaps and the wheel can come off.

The Studs are only supposed to keep the wheel on, not take the weight.

Glad you ok, watched the video, that was some corner and drop to have your wheel fall off, hope no one in car made it worse for you, nice road though, may have to check that out next spring!
Watch with the paint when when you get repair sprayed, took my paint code to a paint shop and got the right paint, when I sprayed it, its alot darker, got the same as you I think L97A paint code, maybe it was spray job, but it doesn't look too good, one day when the funds are there!!!
