Another Brake Regulator question
« on: 25 August 2007, 00:13 »
Hi, first post, please be gentle.

My Mk2 Golf GTi failed the MOT on siezed brake pressure regulator, and headlights too high.

A friend of mine had a used spare one, which i have fitted. How can you tell if this one works? There appears to be no resistance to open or closed. Will this stiffen after proper bleeding or in use?

The bleeding hasn't gone well, after the system emptied by the time i got the new regulator on, i refilled and tried the one man bleed (naff), two man (not much better), and will attempt with an Ezibleed this weekend.

At the moment i have a very long brake peddle, but no longer locks up at the back after dropping 60mm.

Or have i blown the M/C seals, again how can i tell?

Thankyou if you have read this far

cheers

jay

Did you pump the pedal to the floor when bleeding? If so then it could well be the m/c seals.

Yes, i probably did, relied to much on the haynes book.

But is the action of the regulator normal?

as much info i can give you as piddled as i am is when the cars on the floor with waight on it when break peddle is pressed hard the break valve (compensator) sshould move a small amount.as for bleeding the best way i find is to open the nipple put your thumb over the end and have a friend slowly press the peddle up and down till the pressure forces your finger of . then nip up whilst pedle depressed then work a pump at a time

i may be goin on plz excuse me  ITS FRIDAY   ALSO    BANK HOLIDAY   like that matters

hope this helps     mark
