HARD START-PLEASE HELP
« on: 25 February 2004, 05:17 »
HAVE A 94 GTI THAT IS HAVING A HARD START. I JUST DID THE TUNE UP AND REPLACED ALL THE VACUUM LINES AND THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. THE CAR WILL NOT START UNLESS I PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL. I PUSHED THE CLUTCH DOWN AND EVEN PUT IT IN TO FIRST THINKING THAT IT WAS A NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH BUT WHEN ITS ON THE CAR RUNS AMAZING. NO LOSS OF POWER. THE FUEL PUMP IS FINE. NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON.. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME...

THANKS

the only thing i can think of is either something has not been put back on right or with you having to press the pedal the make it start this would suggest that the car is over fueling as the pedel only controls the throttle alowing air to enter the engine thus allowing excess fuel to escape out of the exhaust. ie your fuel pressure regulator is set too high if your new one is a performance ajustable one! then i would advise you to turn it down graduly until the engine is able to start without pressing the pedel...... if this is not the problem then it could be down the a number of other causes like ive suggested air pipes not on right....... but i recon if you have the performance fuel regulator it is not ajusted right......

as for and check light this may be due to a sensor failing...i would have the fault codes checked.....this may also be related to your hard starting.....if there is anything electronicly wrong the fault codes will show it up....
