First car
« on: 22 August 2007, 16:57 »
Being 15 years old its getting close to me being able to learn to drive and I can not wait.
I'm also saving up for my first car but I don't have a clue what to have. Yes insurerance isn't going to be cheap. But I'll get trough it some how.
Anyway This is the selectoin I was thinking of:

2005 05 Kia Picantio 1.0
2007 57 Fiat 500
2006 06 Fiat Panda 1.1 Active
2006 56 Citoren C1 1.0 vibe
2007 07 VW Fox 1.0
2006 56 (Old) Vauxhall Corsa SXI 1.2 TWINPORT/1.3 CDTI
2007 07 VW Golf GTI ( I wish )
Beare in mind that it is a few years away yet so the car prices will drop and that insure will be expensive.
Suggestions would be good.... thanks.

Just get a cheap sh!t piece for your first year to get used to the road and to get that all important 1st year no claims bonus. It makes so much difference to the price of insurance being 18 with 1 years ncb, you'd be seriously stupid to do it any other way imo.

That's how i did it a couple of years ago anyway. Rover 214 all the way biatch!

Well I have got quite a bit of cash saved up all ready. And after you've bought it you've got to save up again for the car you really wanted the first time.

Thanks for your comment thought.

 i was gonna say

"can't go wrong with an old shape nissan micra.
yes , its a girls car but it'll cost you nothing to run or insure and will be easy to sell on at very little loss 1 year later leaving money free to insure whatever you get next."

but it seems you have much more to spend.

Totally agree - my first motor was a nissan micra! One of the old school sqaureish ones. Whats important is building the ncb and getting experience on the road. Far too many young drivers jump behind the wheel the day after they pass thier test thinking they drive.

Sorry to be cynical, but chances are you'll have a crash or scuff the bodywork or kerb your rims at some point in your first year. Why do it in a decent car. Save the cash till your older and can buy something better (and afford to insure it!!!)

Yeah but i'm talking about spending 500 quid on a decent enough car with 12months mot, not 5k on a kia picanto of all things!

Well fair enough I did think of a micra at one point.
But if I was to get somthing like a picanto, I would probably change the wheels for some cheap halfords plasics wheel caps.
And by the way you would be strangly suprised by the picanto ( I know it sounds strange.)

Old shape mini power , i had a 1000cc one with drum brakes all round , think everyone should have one at lease once

you re-evaluate jumping out at junctions ECT mainly due to the cocktail sticks for pillars and drum brakes are an experiance

i learned to heel and toe and left foot brake in my first mini
the brakes needed pumping to work and it didn't tick over.
