Just upgraded my ed30 suspension.
« on: 22 August 2007, 01:50 »
Hi all, i have finally fitted eibach dampers, springs and anti roll bar to my edition 30. I am going to sell the OEM parts, question is, does anyone know if these parts will fit other MK5 Golfs? How much do you think the parts are worth? Thanks guys.

Was that the Eibach Pro-System Plus you fitted?
I will fit Pro-System Plus eventually on mine.
Tell us how the handling and comfort changed. Original Ed30 suspension was not very good on concrete highways' scarves.

I fitted the pro dampers and pro-kit springs. Lowered only about 15-20mm. Ride is a touch firmer and abit more 'jiggly' over very bad surface. Feels just as well damped as the OEM parts over speed bumps, none of the crashy/bouncy effect associated normally with lowered/stiffened springs. They are only less comfortable over very bad roads. My passengers all said the ride ain't as bad as they initially thought.
Cornering is definitely improved, remains alot flatter through the bends. Biggest difference for me tho, is the reduction in pitch of the car. My car has been remapped, so with OEM parts under heavy acceleration, i could feel the front lifted, thus resulting in less grip. The EIbachs seem to allow me to put the power down better. Only negative is i feel i have lost some steering feel at low speeds, tho this could be down to me needing a geometry check.
I have yet the fit the front ARB, as VW have changed the design slightly with 2008 models. SO my mechanic has asked for some new instructions, but they came back in german, so he has requested and translated version.

Not a very good picture, but maybe you can get the jist. More obviously lowered at the front.

Is it just me but do the Pescara's look too small for the ED30 when it's lowered?  Or perhaps it is just the darkness of the tyre merging into the wheel arch that makes them look that way...
P.S. How come the front sits lower?  Do you need to tweak it a bit?  Or is it meant to be that way?
Mk 5 GTi, Tornado Red, Leather, Xenons, 18" Monza II's, Sunroof, 6CD in Armrest, Winter pack & Tinted Windows... soon to be adding ED30 front spoiler, plus R32 sideskirts... then getting fully colour coded!
New engine fitted when car was at 27k... last one went "noisey".

Yeah the alloys look small, just the design i guess. Saying that i think they always looked small in magazines, but look bigger in real life. I'm wanting to get rid of them, but they  come as a package for the ed30, so will affect resale value etc.. i think. I may get some 2nd hand monzas on ebay and powder coat them black in future.
Think the rears are deliberately set higher to allow loading, ie rear passengers + trunk load of crap.
