Every cloud has a silver lining
« on: 24 February 2004, 14:58 »
Hazel had an accident this morning..........drove into the side of a Peugeot 306 (good choice) with her Audi. Audi's not too bad but the Peugeot needs both nearside doors. Fortunately I know the guys she hit and they have agreed that if we can find a couple of doors to replace the damaged ones, we can leave it at that.

In my quest to find some doors at the local scrappy I just happened to notice a Mk1 Golf GTI with a mint single headlamp chrome grill........I've been after one for ages but they go for silly money on ebay. Got it all complete for ?15 ;D Its also got the chrome side trims if anyone needs any.....passenger door one was the only one missing.

Still haven't found any Peugeot doors the right colour so I suppose it'll have to go through insurance :(

Sorry to hear that mate, hope Hazel is OK.

What colour are the doors that you're looking for? I have a friend that works for an accident repair shop, he may be able to source you a pair?

Alternatively, he could spray you up a set at next to no cost?

Hi Sheps,

Hazels and the kids are OK, she's just p!ssed off as you can imagine.

I can get a set of doors that aren't the right colour for ?70..........colour needed is white.
Aldershot car spares had a white 306 but unfortunately one of the doors was missing.......real shame as they only wanted ?45/door and that would have been the cheapest way to sort it out :(
Fortunately she hasn't got any excess to worry about, its just the NCB if we go through insurance.
Let us know if you have any luck as the guy has given me a couple of days to see what I can come up with........otherwise we'll just do it through insurance.

Cheers.

Rich,
Glad to hear that everyone is ok. I'm a bit surprised you didnt try and salvage the whole Golf from the scrapyard, to add to your collection.

Rich, I spoke with my mate who unfortunately has no Pug 306 available at short notice.

I don't know how much your no claims/excess is worth to you, but steve (who came to Newark with me) will spray those doors you found and fit them for ?200. It will be a terrific job, of that I can guarantee you.

That figure is based on no damage to the pillars, if there is, then that price will change accordingly.

Is this if any use, let me know and we sort something out - Obviously you'll want to get your mate up and running as soon as poss

It was a 306xld.

Thanks for the offer Sheps. Hazel doesn't have any excess to pay, which suprised me. She's on full no claims so it will drop back to 40% which isn't too bad, 25% increase on ?300/year is going to make it roughly ?375. Being that the insurance was renewed at the beginning of this month we won't even need to worry about it for nearly a year..........so I think that will be the best route to follow.

Thanks again mate............I'll bear you and your mate in mind if I need any other work done as the prices sound very reasonable........especially if he does a good job. ;)
