twin carbs ignition system 1.8 16v (kr)
« on: 18 August 2007, 17:07 »
Hi, my mates putting twin carbs onto his 1.8 16v engine, will the standard ignition system be okay to run this or what aftermarket ones are available?  What would he need?  Thanks in advance.

Nicely set up performance carbs are nicer than the injection system, although fuel consumtion will go up. Fuel injection, unless performance tuned is too restrictive. I would have converted my 8V by now, but the Spanish authorities will not allow it. If you intend to use the car for competition, you need to retain the injection system as the engine has to look the same as it came from the factory. You can put in hot cams and work the internals, but you cannot fit carbs, turbos etc.

so..... can he still use the standard ignition system?

he's not too bothered about the fuel consumption.

Also its a MK1 golf he drives with the MK2 engine fitted, realy nice car, me personally i think its already fast enough, but he wants it faster!

Nice 1

Can't see a reason as to why he can't use the original ignition system, but you will have to use an FPR if your running the mk2 16v fuel pump.
