New to the forum, advise please
« on: 14 August 2007, 13:56 »
Hi Guys,
New to the forum but i'm thinking of getting a Mk1 or Mk2 GTI as a daily driver, I have an old camper as well.  There is a MK2 for sale near me, just wondered if they make a good daily (50 miles a day), how much they cost to run etc? Anything too look out for?
This is the one for sale

Thanks for any help

Hi mate & welcome!

never owned a mk1 but i reckon a mk2 can make a decent daily drive! Drive a standard one sensibly and you should easily get 30mpg + as well as being fairly reliable and pretty good to insure (age means they often qualify for classic insurance!)

I managed to run a turbo converted 8v for 3yrs daily and apart from being a bit juicy due to the conversion, I loved it!! The Corrado i have now also gets used daily and for a 16yr old car thats done 182k its pretty good. Replaced all the tired suspension, brakes, bushes & exhaust when i got it but has been good since **touch wood**!

not to keen on the wheels on that one personally but looks tidy!

What Camper have you got? I think they are wicked and would love to get one!

Martin

That Mk2 looks a tidy example. But like all older cars they can be good or bad. but it looks as if its been looked after so hopefully the mechanicals will be the same.
check out the Mk2 Section for helpful hints.

Oh and welcome!
