Rare Golf or not?
« on: 23 February 2004, 20:01 »
Hello,

I have recently purchased a Golf GTi 16v, but was told that it was a rarer model. As I have never owned a Golf before, I have no way of referencing this. The Logbook manual is colour coded to match the striped seats, and on the front cover is "a golf in 10 million". It is a turqoise colour, from 1988 (I have the original reciept of purchase) and has the large arches and bumpers. I was just wondering if any of the mentioned things are unusual or rare.

I appreciate any help.

Regards,

Mark.

Are there any other distinguishing marks? badges, trim etc?
What colour is the interior? or is there anything unusual about the car?
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

The interior is dark grey/black, and it has grey, black, and red, blue and green stripes on that match the logbook manual. It has GTI badges on the side. The rear seats have headrests. Other than that I can't really say what is different or unusual, as I've never owned a golf before.

Thanks.

There were some special equipment models released in '88 to mark the  production of 10 million Golfs. The spec included seven spoke alloys, central locking, multi-stripe trim and tinted rear lights and they came in -  Helios Blue, metallic black and Oak Green
It sounds as if it could be one of these. Does it still have all the original equipment (wheels etc..)
Theere was nothing extraordinary about these, except the trim, and I think they were sold in large numbers.

if it is turquoise, as in proper bright electric blue, then it is not one of the '88 campaign' models you are talking about Adam

i think that turquoise colour was only available on 16v's in '88 so in that respect it is a bit rare.

It's definitely Monza Blue. It says so on the original reciept from 88. Whoever bought it payed ?12300 for it.

Does sound rare then - it was at the right time for the Golf in 10 million edition, but it is the wrong colour. I wonder if it was a special paint order maybe?
