LHD to RHD

I am thinking of returning to the UK within a year. If I do then I will probably be bringing my Golf with me rather than sell and buy in the UK. The reason being is that the cars here are generally rust free due to the climate in and around the centre of Madrid.
The question is, has anyone done a left hand drive to right hand drive conversion before?
Are all the holes pre drilled/made or is there any fabrication to be done?
And is it just a case of swapping bits over?
Can the steering column and pedal box assembly be retained?
I am aware that loads of pieces are to be aquired but due to the amount of rotted Golfs being broken in the UK, parts are not an issue.

I think the floorpans are universal, just a question of using grommets to fill the blanks. I think you could retain the column and pedals but obviously your rack will be useless! You've also got to think about the little issues like your seat's height adjuster being on the wrong seat/side. Don't quote me on this but i think the exterior mirrors are slightly different sizes?

Got an 8v GTI, but am looking to change to a 16V or G60 before I come back. Car is going up for sale soon.

The G60 should be kept LHD anyway.

If I get a G60, it will remain LHD but if a 16V, I´ll convert it, but retain the aircon.

I drive LHD in UK. It's no problem. Save youself the hassle and stay LHD. It even has some benefits

As above. it's not my daily, but i actually like it being LHD.
