New style antenna
« on: 11 August 2007, 21:42 »
Was at the dealer yestarday and notice a 57 Reg golf in the car park had a different antenna on the roof.
Had a closer look and the car had factory fit sat nav (not the new touch screen version) the antenna was more like a combination of the sharks fin and bee sting together.

Anyone else seen one?
I took a pic, will post it tomorrow.

As a side note to this (and not wanting to take off topic)... why did VW stop integrating the aerial into the rear screen?  My 05 GTi has no aerial and I think it looks better

Mk 5 GTi, Tornado Red, Leather, Xenons, 18" Monza II's, Sunroof, 6CD in Armrest, Winter pack & Tinted Windows... soon to be adding ED30 front spoiler, plus R32 sideskirts... then getting fully colour coded!
New engine fitted when car was at 27k... last one went "noisey".

My 04 GTTDI had aerial in the windscreen too, looked far better. My 06 R32 has aerial on roof. VW did it to cut costs. We all know the moaning they have done about how expensive the MKV is to make. Same reason I believe they dumped the R32 Zolders for the new Olymants. More simple design and cheaper to make. Dont look as well either in my opinion.

I understand that they removed the aerial from the rear window due to poor reception.
Here is the the pic of the new style aerial that I promissed.

My 04 GT TDI has an intregrated aerial and I noticed the GTI I had a test drive in had an aerial...I never have any problems with reception in my car, you'd think a car such a Golf and the price range its in (especially top end stuff) that this would be standard issue cost saving or not!

I saw an 07 R32 at PC World Stockport on Sunday, it had this anenna (with MFD2) and also the new style rims.

On a side note, anyone noticed that the new GT sports have tinted rear windows?  Is that standard now?
