I wondered how long it would take someone to comment on that Capri

Well, it would have been rude not to!  Even though this is a place where we (quite rightly) hail the mighty Golf, I've always had a soft spot for the Capri, having owned three, and worked on many, many more.

BTW, what was the spec of that one on the ramps?

My mistake - I meant to write an aftermarket ram intake, such as Carbonio.

Ah, OK, no worries.

Yours does look lush, but weren't you thinking of selling it?

Re the Capri, I have no idea about its spec - I know nothing about Capris except that I never much liked them.

Re the Carbonio, Gosh! You've got the memory of a woman! Yes I did toy with the idea of changing it for an EVOMS air intake but was greatly put off by how I found Regal Autosport to be and they are the sole UK distributors. Also, I had a brief ride in a Skoda VRS with it fitted and didn't like the very rough noise. Also, if EVOMS' power gains are true, I really don't want more power through my front wheels - I find my car very well balanced as it is.

Ahh, so you never experienced the "compulsory tuning requirement" for Capris, then - a bag of builders cement in the boot , to help with rear end traction!   In all honesty, if you were to examine the Capri with your head rather than heart, then they really were the epitomy of the "Dagenham dustbin", with aweful handling, and very agricultural mechanicals - but those "qualities" also made them a fun and entertaining drive, and they were very easy to maintain.

ROTFLMAO

Actually, my mrs seems to think I have the memory of a sieve!  :undecided:

Ahh, so you still have it then?  BTW, does the Carbonio use the "bypass" function, similar to the OEM ??

....What's a "bypass" function?

OK, it is slightly confusing to explain!  When you are using "ram air" for the airbox, high vehicle speeds with very low engine speeds can cause over pressurisation of the airbox.  The bypass fuction allows some of this excess air flow to "bleed" away.

In the standard Golf air inlet, on the bottom edge (crouch down low, and look through the grill) there is a separate "vane" which vents into the engine bay.  HTH.

BTW, that carbon engine cover is superb - me wants one too (but I'll probably get over-ruled by SWMBO! )

....You've managed to explain it pretty well. My understanding is that it's a separate 'compartment' within the lower part of the stock air intake (which has lots of 'compartments'). In which case, the Carbonio doesn't have it and is one big smooth open 'compartment' vent.

I certainly haven't experienced any performance problems since fitting the Carbonio but am naturally interested to learn what the consequences over pressurisation of the stock airbox might be.

....It's purely eye-candy. The stock grey plastic centre strip was looking grotty and very difficult to clean and so provided the excuse I needed.
