Track car??

Ok since there hasnt been any intrest in my mk2 im trying to punt, im goin to take bits i need from it to make my other mk2 mint, then track it! ive had 2 205 track cars already and couldnt fault them to be honest, i swapped my 205 for the minted oak green gti. Ive got 1k budget to start with untill i get paid next month then will have another 1k to spare, got a few questions about the golf tho,

1.what  the golf weighs standard?
2.And what it weighs stripped?
3.What brakes to upgrade to? cost?
4.What cage? cost?
5.who uses theres as a track and what mods have yo done?
6.would a standard engine be pokey enough for track days?

is it an 8 or 16v? 16v would be preferable for track days, but it depends on what kind or performance. standard engiine can be tuned up, but you can always slap some performance cams in there, have it ported and polished, loads you can do... just depends on how seriously you want to take it.

normal brakes would be okies if you had some good discs and pads, but you can always upgrade to g60 set-up or even 5 stud pattern brakes off loads of vag cars.

best thing to start with though is stripping it out. take everything out and see how it all looks, get some bits sold and get on with it.

as for weight, you'll be able to find the standard weight of a mk2 reletivly easy if you put a search i on here or google etc, but a stripped out weight...well that depends on whats been stripped, whats been saved, engine thats in it, wheels, all sorts of things make a difference. best just to strip it and see how it handles

can't give any specific answers but i always thought the mk2 would make an ideal budget racer.
VAG cars are famous for interchangabilty of parts so dead cheap and easy to mod.
they were pretty strong but light in thier day and were up there with the 205 in the handling department.

Its a 16v its the black 1 in my sig, my 205 was sitting 180bhp ish as had loads of head work and twin 45's quiffe diff, full cage uprated brakes, and only weighd740ish kg so was great for the track, im goin to see a guy from scottish vag to have a look at his mk2 track car, think i will just strip it and get g60 brakes then see how it goes from there.
