Phone Mounting
« on: 06 August 2007, 10:20 »
I am going top get the relevant holder for my mobile as I am installing a bluetooth kit. Want to know about mounting though. Has anyone bought the VW mount (the one that clips at the side of the centre console) on its own without the holders they provide? Or does anyone have a better solution. want it to look as neat as possible really!!

There is a post in the stickys section that will show you exactly what to do by a proffesional car technician (The Doc is his username). He did a install a while ago that came out very clean and neat. Take a look there. Maybe that will give you an indication of how it will look? The bluetooth kit he used is rather simple with just a small mic in the top right hand side of the windscreen and then a small receiver that you can stick in the ashtray etc...

Hope that helps

Fully intend to use that 'how to' to setup my nokia bluetooth kit  I was thinking more about location for mounting the phone. Anyway, since my post I have bought a Brodit Proclip and a holder for my phone which I am hoping will look really neat and tidy (I intend to modify it slightly from standard) will post some pics when its done.

Incidentally there is a guy on ebay selling the official Brodit Proclip for the golf 04-07 for £5 inc postage! Bargain!!

I will then tackle the bluetooth install once I am happy with the phone location etc.

One for the doc possibly - with the Ck-7w can you still use the phone as opposed to the wheel thingy to call contact etc?? I really want to hide the wheel thingy from view and not use it as I already have the Harman Kardon wheel mounted for my ipod and I think it will look OTT.

If the kit is Bluetooth why do you want the holder?

I have a CK-7w bluetooth kit and once the phone is in the car it works fine.

Do you want it for charging the phone?

I think the worst time to have a heart attack is during a game of charades. Especially if your teammates are bad guessers.

Only want the mount as I cant find a comfortable place for the phone in the car. Onlyreal option is to rest it inside the cup holder/bottle opener cubby hole thing but its not ideal, for me.

Nokia do a kit now for around £100 with a screen and a decent remote control - see pic as fitted in the missus GT so you can keep your phone in your pocket

I use a Sony Bluetooth kit and have a really great Krusell magnet for the phone. Much neater and very cheap. The company I work for sells them so if you fancy one PM me and i'll sort it. They're about £5 or so.
