Now I've got my car I thought it would be useful to try to post details of my experiences so that anybody wanting to go this route can make an informed choice and try to talk to Motor Provider to avoid the bad bits:

I ordered my car on 1st February (week 6) against an estimated delivery time of 12-14 weeks
I was led to believe that it would be delivered in June by using MP's progress email facility on a regular basis.
Then I, amongst many others was informed that no cars had been built and that we could wait until the cars would be built week 30 and available for September or have our £1,000 deposit back. This situation appeared to surprise MP and it highlighted some of the risks of taking this route.

My car was only delivered to the UK last week and collected week 41.

Communication with MP has proved difficult as they have had little control over the supply chain, in particular the Dutch dealer responsible for PDI. This situation has no doubt been impacted by the back log of cars, but seems to stem from the fact that they release limited quantities presumably against a credit limit.

In summary, whilst the communication has been difficult I did get the impression that MP were behaving as honorably as possible given situation. I’m not sure that the one word/one liner email correspondence via the website is acceptable but I did choose to go this route rather than the main dealer. My confidence was boosted when I was quoted a chassis no. the first week in September, and other customers reported getting their cars throughout September.

MP obviously read these sort of sites and I did at some stages find it difficult not to write my true feelings but I did not want to risk antagonizing a difficult situation – I have always maintained that any feedback I have provided is as factual and as objective as possible.

In summary I paid £21,050 for the following:

5 Door, DSG, Metallic, Leather, Armrest, Parking Sensors, Rear Airbags, Highline, and when the car was delivered it also had Cruise fitted. This includes 6 month tax and 5 miles of fuel! – although my screenwash was full unlike 2 others on this thread. The car has all the UK bits including the bottle opener, mats, leather holders for manuals, but only has 2 year VW warranty.

MP provided 7 days free insurance through Norwich Union who then quoted me £326  Fully Comp Protected 5 yr NCB - great deal and a good service

I would have had to pay £25,400 before any discount at a stealers (12 months tax) so I’ve got plenty left to cover the 3rd year warranty if I want it. I’ll take my chance when it comes to selling, in 5 years time I don’t think it’ll really matter that the PDI stamp is at a Dutch dealer.

It’s all behind me now and the car is great.
You pay your money you take your chance – I was never in a great rush for my car so I’m happy with the deal.
I'm looking forward to getting the first 1k miles under the belt

SEACAP – hang on in there…..
ccaasjf - make sure you get an aerial - they borrowed one to go no mine from another, I hope it wasn't yours :embarassed:

Nice one acwats, I've also gone for the silver but a 3 door with 18'' monza's and leather. Good summary of what you and most of us have experienced. I'm hoping I'll be able to collect the weekend after next !! (HOPEFULLY)  How did it go when you picked it up ? was it nice as smooth and did they say anything about the delays ?

SEACAP

Handover was very smooth, no problems, make sure you get your aerial as they take them off for shipping! Hopefully you'll get Cruise Control too

As I mentioned the insurance was a good option - I haven't got my tax disc yet but I'm away this week so it will be posted.

I didn't get into the subject of delays, it's all been said, and I didn't want to spoil my day.

Having reviewed things a bit more I didn't get a radio manual in english so I'll give them a call, the car has rear map/reading lights which I don't think are standard for UK??. Also there is no date on the PDI stamp so I've got to work out what to put down

I've got a full compliment of Dutch handbooks and a spare GTI leather holder if anybody wants to make me an offer....
