hello everyone
« on: 03 August 2007, 13:01 »
Ive been around classic mini's for quite a few years :embarassed: . The wife has always said she would like a golf cabriolet one day and the chance has now come up for us to get a MK1 golf GTI Cabriolet gti. Its got a bit of a difference, its got a VR6 engine and a rear disc brake conversion. I know that there is quite a few of these conversions done out there as well.

Now then myself and the wife are no spring chickens, and have never had expensive insurance quotes with driving mini's. She has been quoted £695.00 fully comp with 7.5k miles a year limit, which she wont do and with her 4 years no claim bonus and a 400 quid excess, also me as a named driver. Does this sound a reasonable quote? We are both 38 and have got 3 points on each of our licences.

Hey Paul,

Welcome. Im afraid I'm not all that knowledgeable on VR6 insurance. I think the fact its been trown into a Mk1 might be making it more expensive (no idea lol, just a thought). If you get a chance head over to the Insurance section and speak to Martinb. He works for HIC (specialise in Golf insurance). He will be able to give a better idea of the situation and maybe beat your quote.

If you haven't already heard it, the VR6 makes an orgasmic sound :)

Good luck !

I myself have just brouaght a MK3 16v GTi, which is the same insurance group at the VR6 for some reason (according to Parkers).

I found that Elephant was the best so far but beware some insurance companies insist on these.

Over 30's only and had licence for more than one year.
Must have Thatcham approved alarm

With out this most price's will be stupid.

Shop about though try the comparison sites and a couple of brokers, looks like some people on here have had good prices from HIC (a member on here too, search for HIC)

Cut the cost of mine in by two thirds just by making a few phone calls.

Gonna hangout with the wangout

Hi Mate, welcome to the forum!

Glad you have found HIC to be ok, feel free to pm me your details if you want me to have a look at that quote for you to see if i can get it down. You said it was on a limit of 7500 miles but she wont do that? Drop the miles, can make a big difference, there are limits to 6,5,4,3,2 & 1k and get big discounts.

A mk1 vr6 cabr sound awsome, any pics?

Must admit to having a sort spot for minis too though, my g/f's dad is into them big time and has a stunnning one that has picked up a few trophies so been to some of the shows, went on the north devon mini run with him last year and it was awsome!

Martin

cheers for the shout aland & dave
