BBS
« on: 03 August 2007, 12:02 »
Iv decided not to sell my car as my dad has convinced me there is no point in doing so. Iv decided to try and gather things for the car so when the Guarantee finishes i can just fit them on the car. Popped into the local wheel and tyre shop in Gibraltar and enquired about the BBS CH, they have quoted me over £2500 for a set of 19" and have told me i will need to wait over six months, then aswell that price is without tyres...does it sound about ridiculous or is that the normal sort of price im looking at for a set of BBS in that size? Could any one gimme any websites where i could just order them?

German Ebay is always good for BBS, item number 8048770172 are 19" BBS CH with tyres for Audi A3 8P, the same offset and pattern as the Mk5 GTi, says they will despatch worldwide and stock is available, mail them and see if they can satisfy your requirements

If you could make do with "mere" 18"s then what about these

Would there be much difference from 18" to 19" and...is that price per wheel or for a set

Set of 4 alloys without tyres.
You get a better ride on 18"s and not much difference IMO from 19's

In my humble opinion, you would be a f*cking nutcase to spend that kind of money on 19" rims.  What would you gain, other that more expensive wheels that wont make the car worth any more money (which I'm sure you dont give a f*ck about) and will just give you a crap ride.  if you had £2500 spare, go and buy some proper worthwhile mods, like an engine re-map, new exhaust, suspension, etc etc.  Unless you are a total chav tw*t, why bother with big wheels?

2007GTI - you don't have to be a "chav tw*t" as you so succinctly put it to want a set of 19"... perhaps he just wants to individualise his car to his own taste

Having bought my car with 19" BBS CH's fitted I can safely say that the ride is not compromised.  I swapped mine for some 18" Monza II but that was because I prefered the "stock" look in that respect... however seeing what Rob-Mk5 has done with them I have to say "wow" - a superb example of how to individualise your car and still maintain style.
Mk 5 GTi, Tornado Red, Leather, Xenons, 18" Monza II's, Sunroof, 6CD in Armrest, Winter pack & Tinted Windows... soon to be adding ED30 front spoiler, plus R32 sideskirts... then getting fully colour coded!
New engine fitted when car was at 27k... last one went "noisey".

Got to agree with 2007GTI, although I dont think he would look a "chat tw*t". If I had £2500 spare I would be doing engine, exhaust and suspension mods rather than new wheels. Again as in most cases its all down to what the individual wants to do with their money, all we can offer is our opinion. If you the wheels mate, get them.
