changed me cv joint yesterday, how easy?????? i havent done much stuff on me vw's as there normally so good you rarely have to touch em, done cv joints on vauxhalls and stuff before and they were akward twots, but from wheel off to wheel on it took and hour and 10 mins ;D gave it a run to grimsby after i did it and its loads better, just thought id report how easy it was, should have done a step by step picture guide, but hey you dont think of these things at the time!! ;D lol

how much did the joint cost you? was it the outer CV joint?

Is it best to change both sides at the same time?

joint was ?34 ish all in from europarts, the reason this joint failed was the rubber cv boot must have been split and it has run dry for a period of time, the other side is tip top, yeah it was the outer cv joint blue, the drivers side.

What noise did it make when it started to fail? What happened when it failed?

When i bought my car it had a split inner cv rubber boot. I had the rubber boot replaced and the joint well packed with grease. Its been fine for months but now i have a dodgy non-wheel bearing noise coming from that area of my car and i'm thinking it could be that bloody joint!

Making a wooshing humming noise!

did you clean the hubs when you fitted the new discs?

hi Knightrider,
            The inner cv boot has split on my mk3 driver(same engine as 1.8 gti with carb) on the drivers side,how hard is it to replace?Can i replace leaving the driveshaft in place??cheers Ryan

not sure, ive got a aligator kit for doing just boots, you can grease this tube put it over cv joint then slide a very stretchy rubber boot straight over, but boots are expensive, to fit a normal boot youl have to knock the joint off, i reckon should still be fairly easy whilst still in situ, u may need to pairs of hands though!!
