Just wondering is there any way of lightning up my clutch and accelerator pedals?The bite on the clutch is very high and the accelerator needs alot of force.Is this common with an 8v mk2 or can they be adjusted?thanks

take both cables off and either replace or at least lubricate by pouring some old engine oil up them to loosen them up

you can adjust the clutch cable at the gearbox end assuming that it aint a self-adjusting cable. if its a self adjusting then replace with a standard cable!

Just a point on the last reply. Adding engine oil is only a quick fix and a very temporary one. The cables are teflon lined and do not react well to petroleum based lubricants. A squirt of a silicon based lubricant may help, but at the end of the day, replacement is required as the cables form a groove in the teflon within the assembly causing the cable to bind.

Must purchase two new cables so,me legs are hanging off me trying to clutch heavy all the time,thanks

Went to get new cables yesterday and clutch no problem but with the accelerator there is two different types.I feel stupid asking this question but I dont know whether my car is single point inection,multipoint injection or carberator.It is an 8v 1989 and can I tell by just looking at the top of the engine which one it is?Going to get it from GSF because The VW garage prices were laughable.

If it is a GTI then its multipoint injection, regardless of whether it is 8V or 16V. 8V GTI means it is usually a PB engine. With that info, GSF should be able to supply the correct parts.

Lads I have to say, all the replies for the questions I am asking are excellent.In all my years with different sites ,for the different cars I have had,this one is by far the best.
