my digi 8v doesnt stall but evertime u come to a stop, the revs dip to around 600 rpm, and then "bounce" back to 900rpm/idle speed as if an anti stall is kicking it? ill start going through the various threads about it and see what i discover

Either that or the MAF has a problem, again that might have been disturbed when the air filter was changed.

I opened up the air filter housing when the car was still running and the maf was making a sort of buzzing whining noise is this normal?
I also moved the hot air flap maunaly but I dont think thats the problem cos I sucked the vacumm tube and the flap moved so I thinks thats ok
cheers for all your advice ppl..week off work next week so I know what i`ll be doing

Not sure about the whining! Mine seems to make a low droneing sound but it's hard to tell with the exhaust rumbling, alternator bearing grumbling and the tappets rattling!

I can't imagine the hot air flap is the problem, I had a K&N induction thingy on mine so no airbox or warm air flap and even then had no cold start problems.

All sorted

Been busy on the car this weekend but theres only 3 things that I did which solved the problem. 1st was tighten the power steering belt properly ( f**king adjuster bolt snapped on me which took a few mins to sort) which Im sure didnt solve the idling problem
2nd was took the inlet hose off and blow a couple of squirts of carb cleaner down the main unit. 3rd was tighten up the inlet hose jubilee clip extra tight

Now ticking over sweet and a pleasure to drive

Compression checked which told me the rings were good
 Timing now checked
Oil flushed and renewed, new filter
 New air filter
 New plugs

But ive still got a problem with smoking and its got worse since someone (not me) tried to help and adjusted the co screw. Next job is to sort that out using rubjonnys thread.
Im deff finding my way round the car now which will help with future problems of which im sure there will be

Cleaned my throttle body 3 or 4 times today and its alot better coming down the revs, the smaller of the 2 throttle butterflys was really cruddy, i think this the is flap that does idle or very little acceleration?  as i operated the throttle the little one moved open before the larger one?

Yeah Dolly..cleaned mine out again and I think (touch wood) it may be ok again..hasnt died out anyways

I think the larger butterfly is for the twin choke and only opens at higher revs

may be completely wrong as I aint know mechanic but thats what I would imagine anyways..

ive orderd a new blue temp sensor, after reading threads it appears this little baby can cause under/overfueling when faulty.. just making it run crapy bascially so for £12 ish and a new o-ring i thought what the hell. also bought a couple of the engine breathers from the flying saucer thing as they had collasped, again only a few quid.
