Golf GTi 16v, Talk to me!
« on: 31 July 2007, 13:37 »
Hi All,
newbie here from Milton Keynes, I am looking to get a Golf MK3 Gti 16v, I am bidding on one at the mo on that well known auction site, not going to say which as I don't want anyone to know, doesn't pay to advertise these things.

Looking forward to winning it, fingers crossed

It will be my first VW having owned Vauxhalls, fords, Citroens, Pugs, Rovers and even 1 fiat. Maybe you could say that I have seen the light!!!

Assuming all goes well would anyone like a Rover 414 is 99 (V plate) FSH AC EW CD Half leather alloys spoiler, Tahiti Blue met, 88k i think. T&T, fair condition for year, looking for £1200, cheap run around for the missus or kids? Think about it.

Anyway, hi all and looking forward to a VW future.

One question, does a P reg GTI 16v have a height adjustable drivers seat, missus is a bit on the short side?

Dave.

Welcome,
I can't remember if my old L reg 16v had height adjustable drivers seat but my current Mk3 CL definately has one. it's a lever on the door side of the seat, pull up to go up.

The Mk3 16v is a fun car, hope you enjoy it.

she's gotta pass her test first!

I had the rover for cheap running but am getting fed up with NO POWER!!!!

so as a compomise I want a Golf as its a little smaller than the 400 but has the power that I am looking for, missus only has little feet so she won't be able to push the accelerator all the way to the floor, should save some abuse.

Group 16 insurance though, Focus RS is only a 14E, why so high? Are they that easy to steal?

link dont work for me?

Hmmm not sure where you got those insurance groups, the focus is definatly higher, see here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=62975.0  there are other factors too like the value etc as focus will be a lot higher.

I think mine is not fantastic due to one Sp30 that I got last year and that I live in a not to hot area, losts of tax dodgers

Still £400 on elephant wasn't too bad, I have found out that there is a thacham alarm but the fella is not sure what type or if there is paperwork for it, can you get a certificate for one that is already fitted if I get it inspected by a qualified installer?

The SP30 does not affect the insurance group of the car, that always stays the same, it'll be the insurance premium that'll be higher because of your SP30.

If the car has an alarm you can get it inspected to get a certificate I think.

My insurance is about £400 for me (27yr old male, 9 yrs driving, 4yrs NCB, 1x SP30 3pts) and wife (learner) on my Mk3 Golf 1.8 CL with swiftcover .

to be honest I don't think an alarm will make much difference to the insurance quote. Try adding it to the Elephant quote then try it without. Probably won't make much difference.

OK its official, I am a GOLF GTi MK3 16v owner

Going to pick it up tonight, have arranged 7 day free insurance through Ebay/Norwich Union, bonus.

I won't be putting the car on the road until mid Sept as I need to sell mine and let the insurance run out on my Rover, the AA wanted £950

Still Elephant want £426, with learner and just a note that there is an alarm/bobilizer fitted, another bonus. Currently I pay £391 with the AA for a 414 rover, looked good at the time but I think I was done.

So will be street legal and on the streets soon. I am a regular at Pod so I might catch up with some of you at the next meet.
