apparently my engine :undecided: needs this as theres a slight clicking / tapping noise as the engine runs ?? :p

ye this is to do with the tappets in the cylinder head, the shims im sure are behind/underneath the tappets, they can be replaced to reduce the space of the tappet (as they wear over there liftime) so it reduces the clicking/tapping  :wink:

must be a crap garage then.. as I've reshimmed a few mk1's and it made alot of difference afterwards = quiet and better running of engine. Properly the garage has no idea where to get the required shim's...

isnt the process reletivly easy to do yourself? euro-crap -parts do them along with gsf... just a tad time consuming though...

yep its not too bad to doo, you just have to get the right required skim's for each tappet. I replaced my cam when I need mine as well, put the new cam on first and then measure the required difference to get the skim's needed.

i vw are the only place that do the shims afaik know mate, i just had to order a 3.25mm from a vw dealer on the ilse of wight as it was the last one in the uk :shocked:

edit that just checked and ecp do stock some sizes :smiley: most of the smaller ones are out of stock though.
