which is unfortunate, i guess its never been changed before, my mechanic checked all engine mounts suspention and driveshafts turns out its had a new one of them to, the rising and falling is from movement in gearbox he is pretty sure, spent hours on it, and  thats why its vibrating footwell on pass side and pedals and rises fall on accelerating and de accelerating, so looks likea big job of a new gearbox or sell it is

ive been told there is lots of different geraboxes within the 16v gti is this true

also is it a false economy buying a used box? (may also be warn and dont know history, arte boxes dear to buy? i was hopeing it would be less serious

i dont fancy spending 4-500 on a box and labour, and theres noises from back of car too and airbag warning light stuck on now too, an dheatshilds rattling but i expect some things on a 145k car

iv got through 5 gearboxs on my swift gti (heavily modified engine) but i had the latest rebuilt by suzuki main dealer as i knew a guy their, and i now change its oil every 4k using mobil G/box oil, its never once give me any trouble again

my advice is just get a second hand box or get yours rebuilt by a reputable company, then make sure u change oil regular and dont do no more mad arse burnouts haha sorry had to get that one in

my golf however is sweet as a nut in Gbox department

No it should be fine, when I replaced my gearbox I had a 3month guarentee with it so if it broke again i get the money back.

Your mechanic should be able to identify the code of your gearbox so you will know which one to get

 I did one burnout which was more a wheel spin, not burnout "s"
how can I of damaged the gearbox, the vibrations no worse at all than it was when got the car, dont think one wheel spins got anything to do with this topic, it does not really need to be brought up again as its been over exagerated

I think burnout was a bit of a extreme word, as it is when people do long wheels spins smoking the rubber and abusing the car, all I done was used the power in the wet and see how much traction it had, and how long it took to stop spinning, from replies of got ive been made out to be a tw@t who tear around abusing his car, I mean its know worse than a drag race at santa pod, anyway i only put it to ask about the smell thats now gone
