Mk V Gti (New Owner, many questions)
« on: 25 July 2007, 17:23 »
Hi Im new to this Forum, Recently bought Mk v Gti Dsg and have quite a few questions i need answering if anyone can help!
Q1 Bought Genuine VW i-pod connector and want to fit myself, how do i remove sat nav to get to back of unit, also ive read that it will render the 6cd changer under armrest useless as you can only have one or the other connected, is the Denison i-pod link the same or will both work
Q2 Wanted to get front and rear spoiler and side skirts colour coded, spoke to a couple of spraying companys and they said two problems.
1. the paint doesn't adhere to the plastic and will eventually peel off
2. Because of the dimpled texture, once sprayed the colour won't match the rest of the car
Has anyone sprayed theirs and have they had any problems?
3. Im thinking of having my car Bluefined, I've read reports from an Ed 30 owner and it sounded quite good, is there anyone with a standard Gti who's had it done?

The only thing I can answer is that I know that if you get the R32/ED30 side skirts and ED30 front spoiler they ain't dimpled and can be sprayed no problem, not sure about the rear bumper though, I thought the ED30 and Standard GTI had the same bumper.  Also I have the Bluefin and its fantastic, but its on an ED30, but check out the Superchips site, they have a graph for performance gains for the standard GTI on there.

here it is http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/vw2lfsiturbo.pdf
also road test from vw driver here. http://www.superchips.co.uk/roadtest/VW%20Driver%20Feb07%20Golf%20GTI%20bluefin.PDF

firstly welcome!

1) if you have an iPod you're CD changer is rendered useless. as for instructions check out the how to at the top for installing a Nokia car kit - that will give you a guide as how to remove the sat nav
2) if the bodyshop you spoke to were worth their salt they'd give you a price for sanding back the bumpers and priming it properly for the paint to adhere to
3) can't answer lol

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I had the dension IPOD and it worked ok with the set up I had in my MKV GTTDI. I had the CD changer and had the IPOD link playing through the radio on 88.8mhz. Still used the IPOD controls and worked better than the VW setup

Thanks Everyone for welcoming me and for all your advice, the rear spoiler on the Ed 30 is slightly different to the standard one, its just a pain that i would have to shell out more money for a smooth sprayable bodykit.
The spray company had tried rubbing the plastics down but said the primers still wouldn't stick and would almost peel off in sheets,  they said you could possibly just spray the paint straight on, but not a very nice finish so will have to save up!!!
I had already read the Bluefin write up on s/chips site but thanks anyway!
I will read the Nokia Installation writeup. Cheers

Easiest and cheapest way to colour code the sides is to buy a pair of Mk5 R32 sides from VW (about £55) which come already primed.
