Fuel consumption............
« on: 24 July 2007, 09:21 »
Just some info for those interested.

ED30 4500 miles on the clock

I went to Bug Jam at the weekend (Thankfully on the Sunday when I got a little tan!?!?) Good show from the FMX guys and Terry Grant + Monster Trucks!

Anyway.....

4 up in the car + luggage
190 Miles Each way
Took it easy on the way down - steady 70mph
A Little more aggressive on the way back and a different route on a few more minor roads

Overall got 385miles with 15 miles to go on the Fuel trip.

Took 51 Litres to fill her back up

Works out just over 34mpg

I've always used Shell V-Power from day one

Another thing I've noticed is that I'm usually getting the computer to add up to 400 miles

e.g

Fill the Tank up and reset...(comp shows 360 - 410?)
Drive a while and that figure will level out to around 380
When the trip comp shows 100miles, usually 300 miles left
When the trip comp shows 200miles, usually 200 miles left and so on...

I do drive smoothly but I also, once in a while, put my foot to the floor, good to let the car know what it was designed for!

Hope this helps anyone who's interested

Sorry for boring those who aren't

So what you are trying to say is that Shell V-Power is better for one day, long distance drives?

to be honest I only put that down so people knew what I was using. As I said, I've always used it. My day to day driving involves Motoways and A Roads and I'm generally getting 320 - 350 miles from a tank with 60 miles left on the Fuel Trip (I don't like to run on dregs!)

My Trip computer (position2) is showing an average of 33.7mpg since I bought the car in March and I've never reset it.

Thats pretty decent. Im running the 2.0l 8V MKIV and the consumption is horrible on it. Admitably I do a lot of town and city driving. I do belive my computer doesnt give an average over the life of the car (correct me if im wrong someone?) but id say I average about 26-28.

My Friend has a GTTDi MKIV and that has a position 2 which just keeps going until you reset it / disconnect the battery. Obviously it doesn't keep the amount of hours, miles etc... as they max out, but the mpg just keeps on going till you reset.

To be honest I've not played around too much with my comp. It has an average MPG one which resets everytime you turn the engine on or off (or over the course of 24hours or something like that). I just leave it at that and cry everytime I get home to see that its not once gone over 30 :( lol

It will have a "1" dipsplayed which you can change to a "2" with a button, I think located under the Right Hand Stalk?

Anyway I'm sounding too sad and anal now..... just enjoy the car!

yeah the MKIV has a 2 trip computer the 1 resets after something like 2 hours (car being off) and 2 has a limit of 999 hours or something like that the books got the proper figure.

Personally I reset my 2 every time i fill up so i can see the consumption for the tank.

I just leave it at that and cry everytime I get home to see that its not once gone over 30 :( lol

lol my 1 was showing 61.2 this morning and the 2 is on 55  (almost halfway through the tank)

34 mpg is pretty good for an ED30, if you've not got it you can retro fit cruise to the MK5 the dealers down here say they can do it for £150, that will give up even better mpg
