At the end of the day VWs have character and are built properly. A friend of mine has just bought a mk2 8 valve with 340,000 miles on it with full history, its never had an engine and didnt have to have even a headgasket until 20.000 miles ago, These things are built for the purpose you show me a citroen or a renault that can do that. Another friend of mine has a Toyota Celica, It has 170 horsepower and yes its quick! He was allways going on that my car is slow (and i agreed) untill we left work at the same time. His car may be quick but i out drove him and showed him the rear end of my V Dub He has now changed his tune. Have you got the regulation half a ton of stereo in the boot ?

mate get a mk2 16v. my 1989 one has got 168000 miles on the clock but i just put it through an m.o.t. and it past first time no problems at all. for 15 years old thats not bad at all is it?
